It’s finally that time of year again: still sort-of warm but no longer summer, and apt to catch a chill if one stands too long in the shade, or a now-decidedly-cool breeze blows by.  I have no complaints, as fall is easily the loveliest time of year here in New Mexico, with my hometown’s flagship attraction set to launch tomorrow–well before the crack of dawn.  Last year’s pictures are lurking far at the back of my Instagram feed, but don’t feel overly compelled to check them out as I have no doubt the next week will bring many, many more.  My confidence comes from the fact that just this morning a balloon landed in the field behind my house and I, in an outfit no where near as sophisticated as the above (read: my pajamas), went bounding out the back gate and through the stick-a-burrs to see if they needed any help.  They didn’t, which makes me think that tomorrow morning I’d do better to make myself moderately presentable beforehand.  That definitely won’t entail creamy cashmere separates, but jeans tucked into boots will be much more protective than my capri sweats-and-Toms combo from today.  My ankles still haven’t forgiven me.
